Basic dimensions are length, force, time and temperature. Other dimensions like stress, energy and inertial mass are derived. A preferred choice is [m], [MN], [s], [K], which is also mainly used for the examples, see Section 5.
This may be changed in particular cases, e.g. using [day] instead of [s] in case of creep problems. Another familiar choice is [mm], [N], [ms], [K] which generally lets derived values of numbers unchanged. But there are exceptions, e.g. regarding crack energy, see Book 7.1.
